Cake Fairy Tales

Life's better with cake and a sprinkle of fairy dust

Disco Ball Karaoke Cake

Too many cakes and not enough time to post them all! So I’m going to pull off a quickie here. Lots of pictures and a little text, how’s that sound?

I can’t take credit for this design. A lovely lady Whatsapped me a picture of this cake and requested an identical one for her dad, a big karaoke fan.

CC disco ball cake

Loved the fun details on this cake, especially the silhouette cutouts and how the cable of the microphone twirls almost irreverently around the cake.

Found a fantastic tutorial for the disco ball here. Both the ball and microphone are made of RKT covered in fondant and then respectively covered in silver disco dust and edible gold shimmer. If you are planning to make the disco ball at home, BE PREPARED to find disco glitter EVERYWHERE for the next few days. It was A LOT of edible glitter on my dining table, kitchen counter-top, clothes. I even found glitter in my baked potato during dinner the next day.

I sent off the cake, sans toppers (packed separately).

The cake was brilliantly received. I hope the birthday boy experienced as much joy receiving the cake as I did making it, and know that he has a lovely daughter who loves him very very much.

Ok, I promised a quickie, didn’t I?

I shall stop typing.
