Cake Fairy Tales

Life's better with cake and a sprinkle of fairy dust

It’s all a bit airy-fairy

My friend Karen has a beautiful family with her husband Mark and their two children Sean and Bella. I baked her this cake for her birthday and thought it would be quite lovely to depict her beautiful family on the cake. It was my first attempt at 2-tiered cakes. Stacked a 7 inch chocolate cake on a 9 inch chocolate cake, both of which were covered with pink fondant first. The flowers made of cut mini marshmallows and candies were then added.

However, the real highlight of the cake were these fairy figures made of sugarpaste, each one made to resemble one of the beautiful family members. Here’s the fairy family together. (Don’t worry, that’s a CLEAN kitchen sponge and a washed potato. I was out of foam.)

Here’s Karen and her characteristic short hair.

Mark. He really does have a prominent nose and whitish hair.

Sean. I love the messy Armani hairdo on this little imp.

Few families I know are filled with genuine love and respect for one another like this one. I hope they stay this way for a long time.
